The Mississippi River trail is one of the longest biking/running trails in the country, and one of the nicest. Starting at Riverside Park (The Fly) in Uptown New Orleans, this paved 61-mile trail rides atop the Mississippi levee alongside the river. This trail is accessible almost anywhere along its route, and is patrolled by park rangers and law enforcement. The many rest spots and great views along this trail make it one of the best destinations for both casual exercisers and serious day-trip bicycle riders and runners. Because it is paved, it is also one of the best places in the state for rollerblading.
